Boys' Brigade News

Our 16th Annual Display was a tremendous night. The boys put on a wonderful show that demonstrated the wealth of talent within the Company. A special mention must go to the Company Section boys who performed their own interpretation of "Fiddler on the Roof" with Colum O'Reilly singing the lead role.

Our thanks go to Rev. Sandra who was our Inspecting Officer and we welcomed back our former Anchor Boy Leader, Ruby Bannister, to present the prizes. The night was tinged with sadness as we said goodbye to Hal McGuckin, Officer in Charge of Junior Section. Hal gave 10 years of faithful service to the Company and our Chaplain the Rev. Andrew presented him with a John Rocha Bowl to mark his retirement.

The Rev. Sandra brought our session to a close with a service of Thanksgiving in St. Brigid's Church on Tuesday 27th April.

Mothers' Union

The Diocesan Family Fun Day which was organised jointly by the Sunday School Society and the Mothers' Union was held at The King's Hospital and was a great success. Nearly 500 parents and children enjoyed a picnic lunch and a fun packed afternoon of bouncy castles, puppet shows, arts and crafts, face painting, hip-hop dance and music by the Steadfast Band. The coffee dock was busy and folk met up with friends and acquaintances from the past. The afternoon ended with a short time of worship with Matilda the puppet.
Once again the sun shone, this time for our Branch outing which brought us to Avoca Handweavers in Kilmacanogue in time for lunch. We had a wander round the shop and into the garden centre. We then went on to Powerscourt House in Enniskerry where some had a walk in the beautifully maintained and colourful gardens (a sign told us 'no rolling on the grass' …. as if we would!!!) while others opted to look in the shops and sit in the sun and chat.

It must have been the day for MU outings, as we met some other MU members from Co. Armagh who were down for their outing and were having tea at Taney Parish Centre on their way home.

On our way home we stopped off at the Silver Tassie on the N11 and had a nice three course meal-lovely not to have to cook!

We bid farewell to Patricia Kenny, David and the girls as they move to Germany for five years. We wish them well and hope they enjoy the experience but look forward to their return in due course.

All that is left to do now is for the committee and representatives to meet before the summer really begins and discuss and arrange a programme for the next session.

Valerie Greene - Hon. Secretary
