AnnouncementsLooking ahead to the summer: Our annual Summer Bible Club takes place on 23 rd-27 th August, with the closing service on Sunday 29 th August at 11.30 a.m. The theme this year is “Desert Detectives!” Look out for the Booking Forms. Adult helpers are required (please contact the Rector). Farewell: On Sunday 13 th June at St Brigid’s, we said farewell to the Kenny family, Patricia, David and the girls Emily and Melanie. Patricia was thanked for her work as organiser of the Readers’ Rota at St Brigid’s. Due to David’s work, the family are now going to Frankfurt for five years and we wish them a safe journey and an enjoyable experience of life in Germany. Overseas Mission: Three of our younger parishioners go abroad this summer. Lennon Neary goes to Madagascar at the end of the month with a team from TCD working on a Habitat for Humanity programme, building homes for the very poorest people. Karen Cadoo will be going to Tanzania to work on an AIDS-related programme, and Sheena Cadoo will go to Uganda to join a programme involving teaching and helping to construct a new orphanage for children with AIDS. We keep all three of them in our prayers. Visit of the Church Of Ireland Men’s Society Recently, we welcomed the Church of Ireland Men’s Society (CIMS) to St. Brigid's Church for a visit as part of a tour of Dublin. The CIMS was founded many years ago as a social and spiritual group for men. As far as I am aware, it only exists in the North at present, but there are branches in many parishes across those dioceses. They have talks, social gatherings, retreats and tours; this trip brought together members from right across the six counties, and was their first time in Dublin for many years. Holy Communion was celebrated in St. Brigid's with the Dean of Armagh, Very Rev. Herbie Cassidy, presiding. Sandra and I then gave a short talk on our parish today, highlighting its huge growth and multicultural nature, and the members were able to look at the history of the Church using our short guide. They then went to the Parish Centre, where members of the Clonsilla Project committee provided a beautiful meal as a project fundraiser. As they left to return home, they were very appreciative of the hospitality and of the welcome they received. The Tiny Tots group held their AGM recently after another very successful year. The following committee was elected: Leader: Olive Good, Secretary: Sandra Condell, Treasurer: Sandra O’Sullivan, Committee: Sally Koorneef, Sylvia Denner, Vivienne Hayes, Avril Batty, Linda Kelly and Elaine McSweeney. We look forward to seeing old and new faces in September! Olive Good, Leader |
