Clonsilla ProjectBuilding for the future generation At last the sod has been turned! On 13th June, following a lively morning Service of the Word, our guest of honour Lady Arnott turned the sod outside the vestry, marking the beginning of the realisation of our dream. Behind the gathered throng stood the deteriorating container which the Sunday Club continues to have to meet in, so it was appropriate that the whole Sunday Club was present, having just had their annual prizegiving in the church. Lady Arnott, whose family has a long connection with Clonsilla, was afterwards presented with a bouquet of flowers by Yasmin Barr. At the same ceremony, prayers were said to mark the departure for Sweden of Eddie Greene, who (although he didn’t take up cycling until he was 60) was undertaking a sponsored 1000 km cycle ride (nearly to the Arctic Circle) in aid of the Clonsilla Project. Our fundraising needs to continue, so we thank Eddie for this venture. Thanks are also due to all who supported the Fort Lucan event on 18 th June and the Car Boot Sales in May and June. The Architect has promised that building will start in August. Notelets now available: A set of notelets depicting St Mary’s and St Brigid’s churches are now available. Costing only €5 for a set of 8 notelets and envelopes (two of each design), they can be ordered from the Parish Office. Further enquiries should be made to Valerie Fildes or Pat Gray. THANK YOU to Hazel Barr for organising Fort Lucan and to Liz Fleeton for running the car boot sales. A BIG THANK YOU TO EDDIE GREENE and to all who sponsored him. A tremendous amount of money was raised, over €9,500. If you have not returned your sponsorship card, please do so as soon as possible. LOOKING AHEAD there will be another Car Boot Sale in September (date to be arranged), the annual Gift Fair in November and a Golf Classic in May 2005. |
