The opera “Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street” was performed at the Rupert Guinness Theatre over four nights (15th - 18th September) to appreciative audiences. The lead role “Sweeney Todd” was played by Colum O'Reilly. The second male lead “Anthony” was played by Mark Melbourne. The “Boy” was played by Peter O'Reilly. Company Section had its first outing of the season on Saturday 9th October. Setting out at a brisk pace we marched to the bus stop in Castleknock Village and took the bus to town, where we linked up with the newest part of the public transport system “D LUAS”. The boys, having mastered the automated ticket machine, purchased return tickets for all and we boarded the next tram for Tallaght. We passed through Heuston Station, St. James's Hospital, along the canal to the Naas Road where there were many and varied comments from the boys, and finally to Tallaght. We crossed the rails and boarded the next tram returning to town. During the return journey both leaders were strong-armed off the tram at Kylemore and frog marched into McDonald's where they had to stand and deliver - the food that is. It was unanimously agreed by all that “it was a fun day and a new experience” Junior Section: Junior Section boys have been busy over the last few weeks. They have started their achievements and have been learning to play badminton as well as soccer and hockey. We particularly welcome two new boys to the Company, Aaron and Elvin. Anchor Boys: We are delighted to welcome eight new boys to join us in anchor boys this year, bringing our numbers up to 23. We hope that Sam, Patrick, Robert, Aaron, Sean, Jesse, Ryan and Devon enjoy Boys' Brigade over the coming months. We have formed the boys into their squads and this year the squad leaders are Luke Murphy, James O'Reilly, Stephen Kane and Paul Lynch. It is great to have Linda McKiernan on board as a helper; we wish her well. The boys have started some craft work which will be displayed at our enrolment service. We have also been checking out their footballing skills and their skipping (!!!),as well as having some interesting group discussions, and of course lots of games. Robert Lawson DoveTales Video Club and Sunday ClubCongratulations to the trophy and medal winners of our “Know Your Bible” Quiz. It was a great success. The Rector and Sadie Smullen were the Quizmasters, with Lesley Anders and Alex Kitching acting as score checkers. Thanks to Jenny Mutawe we had a music round for the first time. Jenny played tunes from hymns and songs and each participant had to write down the first line correctly. The final winners were:
A big thank you to all the club members for participating and thank you to all the parents for encouraging them. Special thanks to all the leaders who ran the show: without their keen interest the quiz couldn't take place. The reward for the leaders is seeing the expressions of thrill and excitement on the faces of the winners. Hot dogs and crisps were enjoyed by all at the end of the evening. We hope that next October a new lot of winners will be recorded. Beryl Stone Note: the club's name is DoveTales… Tales as in stories not tails. Dove stands for the Holy Spirit. It is another name for Bible Stories. Girls' BrigadeWe welcome back our girls and newcomers for this session. Avril Hollingsworth, Suzanne Mulligan and Shelly Smullen are taking time out and we welcome back Jenny Richards. Jenny Nason has gone to England to further her studies for a year. Our Enrolment service is on Sunday 7th November. Ros Garrett Mothers' UnionAs the North Area Meeting is always held in November we do not hold a monthly branch meeting.
