In Memoriam:
June Stella Shackleton (nee Rickards) (16th June 1921 - 4th October 2004).
The death of June Shackleton - the end of an era in the life of Clonsilla parish, as June was almost a last connection with the rural big house - was marked by a full church for her funeral. Born in England, June served in the Wrens in the war, before meeting David Shackleton and moving to Ireland following her marriage in 1947. At Beechpark, her life revolved around her family, cats and dogs, and managing the house and extensive grounds, but she also found time to enjoy her hobbies - tennis, swimming, cycling, reading and Bridge. June's forthright manner belied a deep well of human kindness and compassion, and a deep faith. Widowed and housebound in recent years, she greatly appreciated the devotion of her carers, and the clergy visits, and she welcomed receiving the Sacrament at home when she could no longer come to church. We extend our deepest sympathy to Jonathan, Arthur, Charlie and Lydia and their families, and to Bla, Phyllis and Kathleen.
Beryl Florence Hawkins (11th July 1938 - 7th October 2004).
Beryl died very peacefully after a short illness, in the long term care of the devoted staff at St Joseph's Hospital, Clonsilla. Prayers for the removal from the hospital were led by the Curate and the Rector, with staff and many of the residents who wanted to pay their respects to Beryl. The funeral, conducted by Canon Des Sinnamon, took place at St Nahi's Church, Dundrum, where Beryl always attended the early morning Sunday communion whenever she went home for a weekend or holiday, up until June when her sister Doris died. Canon Sinnamon paid tribute to Beryl's warmth and deep but simple faith, and to the way she had touched so many lives. Beryl's ashes will be interred in the family grave at Mount Jerome.
