On 30th October we gave thanks to God for the full, active and outgoing life of Alice Fisher, whose Christian faith was witnessed by her love of work, people, and music. Born in Ashtown and educated at Castleknock National School, Alice worked in Dublin until in 1959 she went (by boat) to India to work for 3 years as secretary at St Hilda’s missionary school, Ootacamund, in the Nilgari Hills. She loved India and its people and travelled around, visiting Nepal among other places. In the late 1960’s Alice returned to Ashtown to care for her elderly father, carrying on working, using her book-keeping skills until long after retirement. Outside work, the Guiding Movement was important to Alice: a Brownie, Guide, and Ranger, and for over 20 years (from 1969 until 1993) a Commissioner, first at Divisional level, and later, as District Commissioner for the Fingal District. Music (concert-going and singing) was another great love – Alice sang in church choirs at Castleknock, and later in Zion and Monkstown. In her later years Alice moved to the Haven, then 3 years ago to Dalkey Lodge, and the family wish to pay tribute to the staff for the great care which Alice received, and to the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at St Michael’s, Dun Laoghaire. Our sympathy goes to Alice’s family, Kathleen and Fred, Robbie and Dorothy, Fiona, Leslie and Anthony, and to her close friends and carers. |
