Associate Liz Farrell was placed 3rd in the Associate Solo. Our Associate Team (Ros Garrett, Heather Hayes, Sandi Kenny and Liz Farrell) came 2nd in their competition – this was a unique team in that it spanned 4 decades! In the District Competitions, Allison Hollingsworth came 3rd in the Junior Skipping Solo, one of Jenny’s Junior/Senior teams came 2nd in the Freework Competition, and Grainne Hawkes came 1st in the Senior Skipping Competition. A big “Thank You” is due to the teachers for these competitions and also for the Scripture Exams which were held on Sat 26th February. Well done to Slaine Shields, a member of the Under 15 five-a-side football team, who won the Special Olympics Leinster P.E.I. Shield! Ros Garrett Mothers' UnionThe Annual General Meeting with elections will be held on Monday 4th April and we will also have our annual cake/home produce sale in aid of the Rector’s Discretionary Fund. On Tuesday 19th April we will celebrate the inaugural meeting of Mothers’ Union in these Parishes with a service of thanksgiving in St. Brigid’s. It is most appropriate that the preacher will be our Archbishop, The Most Reverend John Neill, as it is thanks to his late mother, Mrs. Rhoda Neill, that Mothers’ Union was restarted in the early 1960s shortly after she came to the parish. We hope that member’s, husbands, friends, parishioners and anyone who was connected with Mothers’ Union now living outside the parish will join us on that evening. On Saturday, 23rd April members of our link Branch, Holywood, Co Down, will visit us. They plan to do some shopping and then meet some of us to visit Aras an Uachtarain. We will have a time of worship in St. Brigid’s before having tea together in the Parish Centre. The link with Holywood was formed in 1978 and many friendships have been made down through the years. On Saturday 14th May we plan to have a day out without travelling too far afield. In the morning we propose to take a Viking Splash Tour in Dublin. By lunchtime, we should be as far as the National Garden Exhibition Centre in Kilquade, Co. Wicklow and later in the afternoon we hope to visit Wicklow Historic Gaol. We will stop for a meal on the return journey even though, no doubt, we will have had morning coffee and lunch somewhere along the way! Valerie Greene School NewsAt the end of the Easter term our principal, Mrs Olive Wilkinson, announced her retirement. She will finish officially on 31 st August 2005. By far the longest serving teacher in the school, she began teaching with us in 1977. She has put a great deal of hard work and dedication into school life, constantly stimulating the pupils’ creativity and imagination. Her last two years, when she became Principal, continued this tradition of hard work and constant care for staff and pupils. There will a chance for us all to recognise her contribution later next term. Communications GroupAs from May 2005 the Communications Group are taking over responsibility for forwarding the Parish Notes for the Church Review each month. Parish organisations should continue to forward their notes to Martha Waller (wallerm@oceanfree.net). The deadline for receipt of items for inclusion in Church Review and Parish News continues to be 10th of the month, no matter which day of the week. This deadline is essential especially in the case of Church Review as notes will not be included in the magazine if they are not received on time. Every Parish in the Diocese is restricted to 1,000 words in total for any one issue of Church Review. As a result, notes for Church Review should be short, no more than 50 words except in exceptional circumstances. Notes for Parish News can be as detailed as you like. Notes for Church Review and Parish News should be sent as two separate items, indicating clearly to which publication you would like them sent, in one Word document by email to Martha Waller.
