The Rector WritesDear Friends, There’s a great story about a man whose marriage was ending - he had fallen out of love with his wife. One day, out his office - window, he caught a quick glimpse of a woman who seemed to him to be the most beautiful he had ever seen and decided that this was his chance to find a new love. So he quickly ran out and followed the woman until at last she paused at a shop window. He ran up to her and as she turned to face him, he found himself looking into the face of … his wife. For me, that sums up the message of Easter: the transforming of people and situations that appear to be hopeless and beyond help. It’s about seeing the familiar places and people around us with a fresh vision and realising that nothing and no one is beyond the power of God to change and be changed. As I write this, we are preparing for Easter Eve at St. Thomas’. As darkness gathers, we will light the Easter bonfire outside, and bring that light into the dark church as a symbol of God’s power which raised Jesus from the dead, and which still brings new light and new life to his people today. Easter means hope: a true and living hope for a world which can seem hopeless. A very happy Easter to you all. Yours in Christ Andrew |
