USPG
USPG is an Anglican mission agency with a successful 300-year track record of enabling people to grow spiritually, to thrive physically and to have a voice in an unjust world. We do this in partnership with churches around the world, providing the resources - people, money and ideas - that they define as necessary to meet local needs. In 2002, the Parish decided to sponsor the St Anne’s Hospital, Liuli in Tanzania Project as a result of an address given by Karin Johnson of USPG on Mission Sunday. Here is the most up-to-date report from this project. St Anne’s Hospital, Liuli in TanzaniaUpdate from USPG Project 124, October 2004 St Anne’s Hospital is in a remote location on the eastern shore of Lake Malawi and serves a population of 100,000 people. The infrastructure is very limited. Many people walk for days to attend the hospital. Communication difficulties New assistant medical officer 'At school I developed a desire to help sick people. I believe that God blesses the carers in this world, and, as I have devoted my life to serving Jesus, the only natural thing to do was Advanced Level Education [Tanzanian official examinations] in physics, chemistry and biology, to equip me to serve in the medical profession. I'm 31 years old now; I have been working in St Anne's Hospital for about four years. I took my ordinary diploma of medicine at Sengerama Mwamza. After that I worked in the tuberculosis and leprosy department. I enjoyed this — offering patients much-needed encouragement and love. I have recently qualified with an advanced diploma in medicine at the medical college in Mbeya. 'I am devoted to work in St Anne's Hospital, since it belongs to the Anglican church, it is in my motherland, and moreover, I can fulfil a dream I have had since a child: to serve those in need.' In 2004, we aim to raise £22,800 for St Anne’s Hospital, Liuli. Please give generously to support this life-saving ministry.
USPG Projects USPG enables marginalised people to grow spiritually, to thrive physically and to have a voice in an unjust world.
