Boys' Brigade News

Our 16th Annual Weekend Away for Company Section/ Junior Section was held in fine weather at River Valley Camping and Caravan Park, Redcross, Co. Wicklow. Twenty-seven boys (the largest ever), under the guidance of Bernard Sheridan, Lawrence O’Reilly, Jim O’Connell and Robert Lawson had a wonderful weekend of fun and not so much sleep. A day trip to Clara Lara Fun Park followed by a 5-a-side football match ensured a quiet day on Sunday. Everybody attended Sunday Morning Worship at Redcross Church.

We now look forward to a long summer break.

Mothers' Union

Some of our members joined with other members from the North Dublin Area at the Annual Service that this year was held in Finglas. Our Diocesan Chaplain, Rev. Paul Houston, was the preacher and as always there was time to meet and greet our friends over the usual cup of tea.

We went on our annual outing on Saturday 14th, that glorious sunny Saturday in the middle of May. Our first stop was at the National Garden Exhibition Centre in Kilquade, Co. Wicklow, where we had “elevenses” before wandering around the gardens and enjoying the peace and tranquillity and then doing a little buying.

We lunched in Wicklow town and then went to the historic gaol where we met The Gaoler, The Matron and The Master of the convict ship. The visit to the Gaol was an interesting experience and told us much of how our forefathers tried to exist. Later in the evening, on our return to Castleknock, we were joined at the hotel by other members who were unable to spend the day “gallivanting” and we ate, drank and talked until we felt it was time to return to our respective homes.
