Visit of Discovery Choir:
12th June was memorable in St. Brigid’s as we were delighted to welcome some members of the Discovery Gospel Choir at the 11.30a.m. service. They were fresh from their wonderful service in St George’s and St. Thomas’ where Bishop Desmond Tutu was the preacher. The singing was truly memorable, as just nine choir members lifted the roof, leading us in some great African worship songs at the Eucharist. The service concluded with a traditional Nigerian memorial to Stella Obe’s father, Elijah, who died earlier this year: to the strains of “Bayete, Nkosi” his family danced up the aisle with a charitable offering and finished with prayer. In the finest traditions of African hospitality, Stella and her family then hosted the entire congregation to lunch in the Parish Centre afterwards. A wonderful day!
The Sharing Space:
This is the name the Churchwardens chose from the many entries submitted for our new area at the rear of St. Brigid’s. A multi purpose area, we will use it for coffee, for small group worship and for prayer meetings. The new name reflects all these ideas as well as the sense of community that we constantly try to build. Congratulations to Rachel Orr who submitted the name (the Rector wasn’t involved in the choosing…!)
St. Thomas’ Mulhuddart:
A reminder to everyone that Summer Sundays have resumed, and we hope to have a barbeque on Sunday 14th August!
Summer Club:
Our Annual summer club runs from 22nd - 26th August. Booking forms are available from the churches and the Parish Office and should be returned by July 15th.
Castleknock Community College:
At the graduation ceremony this year, the 6th year students donated €200 from their fundraising efforts to the repairs in St. Brigid’s Churchyard following the recent vandalism. Thank you very much to these generous young people.
