Organisations ReportsBoys' Brigade | Brownies | Girls' Brigade | Mothers' Union | Youth Club Boys' BrigadeThe company reopened on Tuesday 20th Sept and we were delighted to welcome everyone back. We are pleased to have two new leaders on board, Lynda Ross-Dolan and Rory Sheils. We would also like to welcome all the new Anchor Boys. We look forward to an action packed year with, once again, over 50 boys in the company. We would also like to congratulate Mr Lawrence O'Reilly on becoming the new co-ordinator of the 10th Dublin Company. Janet Seaman BrowniesThe Castleknock Brownie unit reopened in December 2004. Brownie Guides are aged between 6½ and 11 years old and are junior members of the Irish Girl Guides. We have fun while learning to help others. We play games, carry out activities from our footprints, sing songs, drama, learn about people from other countries. But it is not like school, as we learn through fun and doing activities. We can get lots of badges. The first is the enrolment pin and the six emblem. Then we work on one of the footprints. At the same time we earn interest badges such as craft, hostess etc. We meet once a week during school term time on a Thursday evening between 6.45 p.m. and 8 p.m. As well as the weekly meetings, there may also be special activities. Jacki Thompson Girls’ BrigadeA warm welcome to our new girls and to our returning girls. We hosted the District Demonstrations for P.E. on Wednesday 12th October. There will be a Girls’ Brigade National Parade on Sunday 20th November in Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin. On Sunday 27th November at 4 p.m., Castleknock is hosting the Annual Past Members’ Carol Service. This is the first year it has been held in our Church, and all Girls’ Brigade past members are welcome to attend. It will be followed by light refreshments in the Parish Centre. Ros Garrett Mothers’ UnionThe first regular meeting of the season was held on 9th October. It was very well attended and was an open meeting. The title was Women’s Health and we were fortunate to have two excellent speakers from the Women’s preventative health unit at Tallaght Hospital. Prof W Prenderville and Colposcopy Nurse Mary Martin gave us an interesting and useful talk. Also that night we held our annual collection of cold weather gear for Simon. The Knitters have been meeting regularly in each other’s homes and new people are always welcome (no knitting skill required!). Our next meeting will be Monday 7th November when we will attend the North Area Meeting in Raheney Hall at 8p.m. where the speaker will be Commandant Ted Shine. Following that will be a meeting on 5th December entitled “The Hat Box and The Kitchen Sink”. Advance warning - The night out is planned for Thursday 12th January in Coolquay Lodge…… keep it free…….! Susan Green Youth ClubThe new committee is busy planning the winter programme. Thanks to all parents and helpers who made our bar-b-q a great success. We recently had a quiz night, a games night and have been bowling at Leisureplex. Charles Seaman Boys' Brigade | Brownies | Girls' Brigade | Mothers' Union | Youth Club |
