What do the clergy do all day? | Parish Hockey | A Thought | Recipe from Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen

What do the clergy do all day?

That’s a question that sometimes gets asked, but the answer is difficult, as one week can vary from another. The Parish Planning Group asked the Rector to analyse his working time over a number of weeks and these are the results.

Clearly some items, for instance organising Summer Club, come in concentrated bursts in the year, so this is an approximate average. As you read, consider if the time spent on different sections reflects what you would like to see the clergy doing. If not, what can be done?

A couple of thoughts from Andrew:

The amount spent on prayer and reading are far too low. They are things that get easily squeezed by other items e.g. administration.

“The clergy don’t visit any more”: this is a complaint often made. The figures above show that, for general visiting, this is by and large true. So two questions:

  • Is visiting a good use of clergy time when so many are out in the daytime?
  • If parishioners want to see more visiting, what items from the above list can be reduced?

Parish Hockey

Work off that turkey with our traditional St. Stephen’s Day hockey match at King’s Hospital from 12 noon to 2 p.m. It would be great to see new faces this year. No experience necessary!!
