Announcements

Christian Aid: €400 was raised for Christian Aid during the four Sundays of Advent in Clonsilla when the Congregation gave a donation towards their coffee after church. Thank you to everyone for their support and to those who provided the extra nice “eats” each Sunday.

Christmas Fair: The Christmas Fair easily surpassed all records with a grand total of €16,200 being raised. It was a great team effort, with most stalls recording an increase, and everyone happy! It was great to see a lot of new people involved especially in baking and organising, as well stalwart efforts from familiar faces. Well done to all concerned especially to the “committee” of Sandra Connolly and Sheena Cadoo.

Christmas: As always, a big thank you to all concerned for a very enjoyable and beautiful series of Christmas services. Particular thanks are due to Pat Gray and Dorothy Robinson and their teams for the wonderful decorating; and also to Raymond and Avril for the excellent festival music. Many commented on the beautiful services for the nine lessons and carols and Christmas midnight. We want especially to pay tribute to our Sunday Club performers in both Clonsilla and Castleknock who put on terrific nativity plays which everyone greatly enjoyed.

Farewell to Fr Eugene: Andrew, Elaine and Stella were present at two farewell events for Fr Eugene Kennedy, our great friend and retiring PP in Laurel Lodge. At a very well attended reception in the Castleknock Hotel, great tributes were paid to Eugene’s tireless work, building the church and school from their beginnings in an old prefab, and to the community spirit and co-operation which he has engendered. Andrew spoke about the great friendship between the two parishes and between the clergy, while Eugene himself brought tears and laughter with his reminiscences of parish life. He was presented with a Waterford Crystal boat and a very large cheque, and our parish also made a presentation of some beautiful coffee table books on Irish and Dublin history. We also attended his last Mass on Sunday 29th January where again tributes were paid by the clergy and people. We are delighted that he is only moving down the road to Riverwood and look forward to seeing him in the area. The new PP is Fr. Mick Cullen, currently director of Crosscare, the Dublin social action agency.

Robert takes starring TV role: Robert Lawson recently appeared on “Sunday Morning” on RTE, in an act of worship led by Rev. Tom Gordon. During the course of the programme, Robert and other ordinands were interviewed about their faith journey, and their call from God to Christian ministry. It was excellent witness to the Christian faith, and the conviction of all the participants was clear. A video copy is obtainable from Andrew.
