New Reader: It has been a great pleasure to have Stella Obe with us since her commissioning as a Lay Reader. She preached the first time on 5th February and very well she did too!

St. Brigid’s Patronal Festival was a very special night, as we marked the day with a Eucharist in the Anglo Catholic tradition. All of our Confirmation candidates took part as servers and readers, and they excelled themselves, with the care and concentration that they put into making the service a very special one. It was a great way for them to see how the liturgy works, and how it is prepared. Participation is very much the best way to get young people involved in church life. Thanks to Elaine for all the hard work in training the servers and to St. Mochta’s parish for the loan of various items.

Lent talks: Lent this year will be marked by a series of four talks entitled “Christianity and….”, looking at four very important issues in modern Irish Society (full details elsewhere in this addition). We forward to seeing you all there.

Looking ahead to March and beyond:

Sunday 5th March: Our confirmation candidates will be leading us through the Communion service, explaining it as we go: a chance for us all to learn….

Sunday 12th March: We look forward to welcoming the choir of Strathearn Girls’ School, East Belfast, to sing at the services this morning

Saturday 1st April 60’s and 70’s disco in the Castleknock Parish Centre in aid of the Clonsilla Project

Sunday 2nd April Castleknock Easter Vestry (earlier than usual this year). Clonsilla Easter Vestry takes place Sunday 23rd April. All are welcome to attend these Annual General Meetings. Those who are registered as vestry members may vote to elect the new wardens and Select Vestry members for 2006-07. Please do come along and support our democratic structures.

Congratulations to:

Patrick Rooke, Rector of Portstewart, on his appointment as Dean of Armagh Cathedral. Patrick grew up in this parish, when his father Billy Rooke was Rector from 1950-1961.

Lynda Peilow, our former curate (1997-2000), and Clive Gardiner on the birth of Peter, a brother for Chloe, on February 25th.
