Organisations ReportsBoys' Brigade | Mothers' Union | Tiny Tots | Youth Club Boys' BrigadeSupper Dance: The dance was a great success, realising a sum of over €1,200 for our funds. We had a full house as usual and the food and music was excellent. A big thank you to all who supported the dance as we rely on the whole Parish and not just the parents to make this event one of the annual highlights in the Parish. Company Section: Well done to the lads from Company Section who won the Battalion U15 five-a-side tournament for 2006 (the new jerseys must have worked!). Junior Section Figure Marching: Two teams of boys and a large group of supporters attended the annual figure marching competition during February. Both teams did us proud, with the A team coming second and the B team fourth (the A team lost out by only one point). Well done to all the boys for the hard work they put in coming up to this event. Thanks to Sean Skehan for helping prepare the boys and a huge thanks to Hal McGuckin who comes out of retirement every year to help out. Thanks also to Philip Good for accompanying the marching on the piano. A Team: Monty Akpan, Richie Akpan, David Duffy, James Hogan, Daragh McKiernan, Luke Murphy, Semi Olusa, Robert Seaman and Mark Sheridan. B Team: Darrin Barr, Thomas Connor, Paul Lynch, Andrew McCabe, Elvin Ojuka, Sam McIntosh, James O’Reilly, Sam Roberts and Cameron Sheils. The whole company had great fun on Shrove Tuesday when everyone had a turn at making pancakes. The smoke bellowed from the kitchen but everyone ate what they cooked. The Anchor Boys were without a doubt the best at making the pancakes. The boys are now preparing for the scripture competition which will be coming up soon. Janet Seaman Mothers’ UnionA great night was had by all at the flower arranging evening. Dorothy Robinson demonstrated techniques with spring flowers, and a number of willing volunteers (!) tried their best to follow her example. Our sympathies go to Dorothy and Pat on the death of their sister Ethel in England. Susan Green Tiny TotsFrantic rattling of dice followed by the call of ‘beetle’ reverberated around the hall at the Tiny Tots’ Beetle Drive on Friday 3rd February. The children and adults in attendance had a thoroughly enjoyable night. A total of €715 was raised for the Laura Lynn Hospice. Our grateful thanks to all those who donated raffle prizes and bought tickets, to Sean Skehan for acting as compère for the night, to the National School for the use of the tables, chairs and PA system, and to those who gave donations. Olive Good Youth Club12 hardy teenagers and four brave adults had a sleepover (very little sleep involved) in the Castleknock Parish Centre during February. They spent the night playing football, board games, play stations, watching DVDs and eating! Everyone attended church at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday morning and then adjourned back to the Centre where some of the mums had cooked breakfast. Janet Seaman |
