Boys' Brigade

Company Section and Junior Section sat their scripture exam during the last month. The boys spent a number of weeks preparing for this, both during B.B. and studying at home.

We are now busy preparing for our Annual Display. It will be held on Friday 5th May in the Castleknock Parish Centre (all welcome). We look forward to welcoming back Robert Lawson as our inspecting officer this year.

The company weekend away this year will be to Carlingford outdoor adventure centre at the end of May. There is always great excitement coming up to this weekend away …and that’s just from the leaders!

We would like to extend the sympathies of the leaders and boys of the 10th Dublin Co. to our former coordinator Robert Lawson and his family on the recent death of Robert’s father.

A bible story video will be made during the Easter holidays. Costumes will be provided. If any member wishes to be an actor in the video then please contact Beryl or Sadie. A date has yet to be fixed.

A special competition, which will include puzzles, mazes and storytelling, will be open to all Video Club members from Sunday 2 April. The winners will receive a trip to a chocolate factory on Saturday 13 May. Details of the competition will be available on Sunday 2 April at Video Club.

The “Know your Bible” quiz will take place on Good Friday morning in the Castleknock Parish Centre – 14 April.

Beryl is prepared to give lessons on Digital Photography to any members, or to members of the confirmation group who want to know more about this subject.

Have a very Happy Easter.

Girls' Brigade

We have had a very busy couple of months preparing for the competitions and I am delighted to report our results. Sarah Hayes came 4th in the Junior/Senior Skipping Solo; and our Associate Team came 4th in their competition. These were the National Finals. In the District Competitions, Danielle Jameson came 3rd in the Junior Skipping Solo.

There was a new competition this year – Musical Theatre Competition. This evolved from the Choir competition and the girls were allowed to sing and act or dance to a backing track or piano music. Seven entries took part and it was a wonderful competition. There was such a buzz in The Reynolds Hall in The High School on the evening of Saturday 11th March. Each entry was excellent and it was lovely to see such a variety of songs/musicals performed. Our girls performed “The Ugly Bug’s Ball” from the film “Summer Magic”, and we came fourth. We look forward to a repeat performance on our Display, which is on Friday 7th April at 7.30 p.m. in Castleknock Community College.

Mothers’ Union

Many thanks to Bernard and Marie Neary who gave us a wonderful account of their trip to Madagascar with Habitat for Humanity last summer. We wish them well for this year’s project. Lorna Hendy represented our branch at the All-Ireland Young Members’ Conference held recently in Leopardstown. Our knitting evenings continue to be a great success both socially and creatively! Our branch communion service in the Cathedral was well supported; and the next meeting will be the AGM and sale in aid of the Discretionary Fund on Monday 3rd April at 8 p.m.

Youth Club

Since the last Parish News we have had a number of well-attended and enjoyable events.

We went to National Aquatic Centre where we were assured everyone had a good time (Charles and Ruby never made it past the coffee area).

There was a puzzle and pizza night held over St.Patrick’s weekend in Castleknock Parish Centre. There was a variety of quizzes and puzzles to challenge all and then the most difficult one of all ….the devouring of the large pizzas.

We are looking forward to joining with a number of other youth clubs over the Easter holidays for a “fun” day of games, followed by a barbecue and disco. We hope a large group will attend from our club. The event will be held in Edenderry rugby club on Saturday 22nd April.
