The Rector WritesDear Friends, The recent parish planning day held in Howth was a great success. Many interesting ideas emerged, including about our work with youth and the older generation. There was a lot of discussion about worship and about subjects for future courses, sermons etc., as well as some ideas about working in and with the wider Dublin 15 community. The parish planning group will be analysing all these ideas shortly and prioritising them for the future. We will be reporting back to you over the next few months. Our thanks go to our facilitators: Charles Seaman, Rachel Devlin, James Anderson and Liz Fleeton, to secretary Robert Lawson, and above all to the coordinator for the day, Canon Cecil Hyland. The parish planning day was one part of our preparation for Church 21, the programme of parish development across the Church of Ireland which we have been invited to take part in. 32 parishes will be gathering in September in St. Patrick’s, Drumcondra to share ideas, discussion and debate about our future directions. We will be represented by Rachel Devlin, Orla McKeever, David Kelly, Elaine and myself. We hope that both these processes will continue to mean that we move forward as a parish together, something that I highlighted once again in my Easter vestry address. Yours in Christ's service Andrew |
