Organisations ReportsBoys' Brigade | Dovetales Video Club | Girls' Brigade Boys' BrigadeOur annual display took place in the parish centre on Friday 5th May. The boys put on a wonderful evening's entertainment for family and friends. We were delighted to welcome back our former coordinator Robert Lawson as our inspecting officer and Ada Lawson who presented the prizes. Every boy received a prize for attendance and participation, and then the perpetual cups were presented. Anchor Boys: Junior Section: Company section: Other News Anchor Boys: Company Section: New Leaders: Summer: Janet Seaman Thank you Robert: During the Boys Brigade display, we paid tribute to Robert Lawson for his many years of dedicated service to the Boys Brigade and in particular to the 10th Dublin Co. Hal McGuckin (former leader) spoke of Roberts time with the company and how important a role Robert played within the company and indeed in the lives of many of the boys outside the weekly meetings. He also reminded us of some of the funnier incidents that involved Robert over the years (one of them seemed to involve cross dressing!) Thanks were also given to Robert's wife Ada and sons Theo and Paul for their support over the years. Rev. Andrew then presented Robert with an engraved decanter and glasses from Dublin Crystal. He also presented Ada with a bouquet of flowers. We wish Robert all the very best for the future and look forward to him coming back to visit the company from time to time. Dovetales Video ClubThe last meeting of the club took place on 21 May 2006. The club members viewed the film, which was made during the Easter holidays. Some members were disappointed that they were not actors in the film, so additional scenes maybe be slotted in during the summer holidays. The actors were suburb and showed real talent. It was a joy to watch the excitement on their faces when they saw themselves on screen. Many thanks to all involved for their patience and hard work. I will be making a DVD copy for each of them. The club outing for all the members will take place on Friday 9 June next. It's a visit to a Chocolate Factory. The bus will be leaving the parish centre at 1.20pm. Details of this will be sent to the parents of each member in the post. I want to say a very big thank you to the Rector for the lovely gift which he presented to me. It is really beautiful and it will remind of the happy days spent passing on the faith to the young people of Castleknock. I was first asked to teach in Sunday School by Canon Bertie Neill in 1975. Then, when Sunday School was held on a Friday night, Canon Cecil Bryan asked me to run Video Club once a month in 1988. I want to thank all parents who have supported me in my sometimes-mad ventures, and also a big thanks to all the rectors, Canon Cecil Bryan, Bishop Paul Colton and Rev. Andrew Orr. I especially want to thank Sadie Smullen for her support and assistance during the past few years. Video club kept me motivated and in touch with young people and I enjoyed every moment. Beryl Stone Girls' BrigadeWe finished off the year with another wonderful Display on Friday 7th April in Castleknock Community College. Every thing ran smoothly and all the girls were there with the exception of two families who were on holidays. Our Tiny Tots showed us some wonderful creatures that live in our gardens and sang us some songs about them. The Explorer’s performed a lovely marching item and the Juniors, Seniors, Brigaders and Associates (– right up to Captain!) performed “The Ugly Bug’s Ball”. After the display leaders adjourned to Ros Garrett’s house to relax and unwind! Following the Youth Organisations service in Holy Week, we will break for the summer. Ros Garrett |
